Draghab

So this past weekend Vivian and I spent the weekend working on our house. The Von Bs own an old Victorian house in Old Towne East in Columbus Ohio. If you aren’t familiar with this area I suggest checking it out it has some gorgeous homes. Our home is 120 years old and Vivian and I have been rehabbing it for the last 8 years.

Rehabbing an old house is hard enough by itself. Rehabbing an old house with a Drag Queen is DIFFICULT.

You see Vivian wants everything to be as original and possible and everything has to be done her way. So that means projects cost at least twice as much and take at least twice as long. If you think Vivian spends a fortune on her costumes you should she want she spends on the house.

Over the course of the last 8 years we have had heating vent ducts moved, a ceiling torn down and replaced, new plumbing and electric run, wood work in 2 rooms stripped of 7 layers of paint and I lost count of how many bushes and trees have been removed and new landscaping planted. We have done all of this while promoting and growing Vivian’s career. So as you can see we have been quite busy.

So the latest project that we have been working on for the last few months is the stripping the molding and wainscoting in the kitchen. Let me give a little background on this project. Back in January of this year Vivian and I purchased new laminate floors for the entire first floor of our house. Well before we could get the floors installed we need to replace a few cabinets in the kitchen. So when the new cabinets came in during February we picked up the ones we needed with the intention of installing them and getting floor install scheduled.

Well we get home with the new cabinets and Vivian decides at that the point she would prefer the woodwork in the Kitchen be stripped and stained. Up to this point I was under the impression we were painting all of this woodwork since there was SO MUCH. Well as you know what Vivian wants Vivian gets.
So we started that process thinking we would be done in at least a month well 3 months later and we are almost done. If you have never stripped woodwork before let me tell you it SUCKS and avoid it at all cost. It has taken this long for many different reasons illness, death, drag obligations and oh yea I don’t enjoy doing it so I put it off as often as I can.

To make up for procrastinating we spend 3 out of 4 days this weekend stripping woodwork. We are almost there with only one major bump. I killed our refrigerator yesterday pulling it out from behind the wall to strip the woodwork on that wall. I guess I don’t know my own strength..lol…more like I was careless. Hopefully it can be fixed and the remaining woodwork will be finished by the end of next week. Wish me luck, Vivian is a slave driver.

So rehabbing with a Drag Queen is Draghabbing!!!!
